If someone told you that one simple thing could help with overheating at night, trouble sleeping, jaw pain, neck pain, and even sometimes snoring and headaches – would you believe them? Well, it’s true. A buckwheat pillow has been known to help with all of these problems. A buckwheat pillow is one filled not with feathers, or a synthetic like foam or fiberfill, but with natural hulls from buckwheat. This allows a buckwheat pillow to easily change shape and conform to whatever it supports, whether head or neck.

  • Overheating at night: The buckwheat hulls, with natural variations in size, don’t pack tightly in a buckwheat pillow, so air easily circulates throughout the pillow. This allows air to also circulate around your head and keep you cooler than a traditional pillow would be able to.
  • Trouble sleeping: Since a buckwheat pillow conforms so easily to an individual’s head and neck, it easily supports the body in the correct position for good sleep. After sleeping on a buckwheat pillow, you will find yourself waking rested and refreshed.
  • Jaw and neck pain or headaches: Traditional pillows can hold the head in an awkward position that over time can lead to neck and jaw pain. Switching to a buckwheat pillow can greatly help, since a buckwheat pillow conforms to your body your head is held in a much more natural position. The relief on pressure points can also help with headaches caused by tension in the neck and shoulders.
  • Snoring: The natural position of your head on a buckwheat pillow can open up the nose and throat, alleviating snoring.
  • Bonus pain relief: A buckwheat pillow can be placed in the freezer to create a mold-able cold pack that can be “wrapped” easily around an area that hurts. On the flip side, a buckwheat pillow can be put in the microwave for a minute or so and provide heat in the same way.

Buckwheat pillows aren’t just great for helping you sleep better or have less pain. They are also great for sleeping while traveling. In a car, bus, or airplane, it can be quite uncomfortable to rest your head against the back of the seat, or rest your head on your hand. Even if you prop a regular pillow behind your head or between your head and a window, it can still cause neck pain. A buckwheat pillow can take care of all of that. Since it conforms to your head, you are much less likely to have your neck at an unnatural angle caused by leaning back against the seat.

As you can see, a buckwheat pillow is a great idea for alleviating pain you may already have, especially chronic neck, jaw, or head pain caused by inadequate support from your traditional pillow. It also works great while traveling to prevent additional pain from the awkward position of leaning back against a seat. A buckwheat pillow is a great investment that your body will thank you for.

The filling for a buckwheat pillow is named misleadingly. Buckwheat isn’t actually a grain at all, but rather a fruit. Which means that as a pillow filling, buckwheat has some great anti-allergy benefits.

1. Since buckwheat isn’t a grain, those with grain allergies will not have an allergic reaction when sleeping on a buckwheat pillow.

2. A buckwheat pillow is 99% dust free, so they don’t attract dust mites. This means that those with allergies to dust or dust mites won’t have a reaction to a buckwheat pillow.

3. A quality buckwheat pillow is filled with organically grown buckwheat, which has no chemicals or petroleum byproducts. Just clean, natural buckwheat filling.

Although there have been no reported cases of severe allergic reactions (asthma attacks, difficulty breathing, etc.) to using buckwheat hull pillows, those with allergies, or even those just committed to natural products, do need to exercise caution when choosing a buckwheat pillow.

Since buckwheat is grown worldwide, it follows that buckwheat pillows are made worldwide as well. If you are in the United States, take care to purchase a buckwheat pillow grown and manufactured in the United States or Canada. It is much more likely that the hulls filling these pillows have been grown organically and care has been taken in their manufacturing. Domestic manufacturing uses a process that carefully mills the buckwheat to prevent breaking the hulls and cleans them with a roasting process that removes 99% of the dirt and flour dust.

On the other hand, a buckwheat pillow manufactured at a foreign plant is more likely to contain broken sections of hull or even flakes that aren’t treated carefully during the process. This can result in a less than 99% removal of flour and dust that can leak through the pillow covering and make allergies flare. Even if made carefully, foreign manufactured pillows must undergo a chemical fumigation before they can be sold in the United States.

The misnamed buckwheat isn’t wheat or a grain at all. So, food made with buckwheat is great with those for allergies to gluten. These properties feature in a lot of food and food type products like beer. But the allergy free advantages of buckwheat don’t stop with the use of buckwheat in food. Buckwheat hulls found in a buckwheat pillow are also great for those with allergies. The natural growing and manufacturing of buckwheat pillows helps those with grain, dust, and chemical allergies. It’s also great for those who don’t necessarily have an allergy to these irritants, but want to use products as natural as possible. So, make an investment in yourself – get rid of your traditional foam or fiber filled pillow and go with the organic, natural buckwheat hull filling in a buckwheat pillow.
